Sightings of large herds of elephants, other animals are quite frequent during boat rides.

Accommodation:There is an excellent variety of accommodation facilities available at the park. The main concentration of these facilities is in and around the Tourist Complex located in the North-Western region of the park. The main ones here being Aranya Nivas and the Periyar House. The KTDC (Kerala Tourism Department Corporation) has three hotels Aranya Nivas, Periyar house and Edappalayam Lake palace.
