Wild Life:Elephants, Tigers, Otters, Nilgiri Langurs, Common Langurs, Bonnet Macaques, Lion Tailed Macaque, Malabar Squirrel, Wild Boar, Sambar, Barking Deer, Mouse Deer, Nilgiri Tahr, Dhole, porcupines, Gaur and Sloth Bears, Flying Snake, Flying Lizard, Flying Squirrel and the Flying Frog, Pythons, King Cobras, Darters, Cormorants, Ospreys, Kingfishers, Racket Tailed Drongos, fish owls, Kites, Great Hornbills, Gray Hornbills, Hill Mynahs, Grey Herons, White Egrets and Orioles Adventure:Boat rides offered on the Periyar lake provide you with the best chance of observing wild life. Sightings of large herds of elephants, other animals are quite frequent during boat rides.

The KTDC (Kerala Tourism Department Corporation) has three hotels Aranya Nivas, Periyar house and Edappalayam Lake palace.
